A Caving Channel.
Mainly videos of caves and abandoned mines in England and Wales. A cornucopia of material for armchair cavers.
What is Caving?
Caving is an adventure activity full of physical challenges and an outlet for a real explorer’s spirit, not to mention a great way to keep fit.
It is an experience of nature unlike any other - not just close to nature but within nature itself.
The experience is incredibly rewarding where magical sights, thousands of years in the making, sculpted rocks and the delicate formations are a joy to behold.
For more information about caving and how to start go to newtocaving.com.
If you don't like caving for any reason then there's always the Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends Garden Railway or the Meccano videos to watch.

Isle of Man Steam Railway
The island has a long history of heritage transport, and steam railways in particular.
The fifteen and a half mile long, three foot gauge Isle of Man Railway runs between Douglas and Port Erin.
It is the remainder of what was a 46 mile network that also served the small western town of Peel, the northern town of Ramsey and the small mining village of Foxdale. The line, from Douglas to Peel, opened on 1 July 1873, followed by the Port Erin line on 1 August 1874.
A third line was built in 1878-1879 by the Manx Northern Railway, from St John's (on the Douglas to Peel line) to Ramsey. A further short line was constructed from St John's to Foxdale in 1885 to serve the lead mines there.
A short branch line was built during the First World War to serve an internment camp. It opened in 1915 and closed in 1920.
The Island is also served by a horse tramway and a network of electric tramways.
The Douglas Bay Horse Tramway opened in 1876.Construction of the three foot gauge Manx Electric Railway started in 1893 with the short line from a depot at Derby Castle Depôt in Douglas to Groudle Glen.
It was extended to Laxey in 1894.
The Snaefell Mountain Railway opened on 20 August 1895, joining the village of Laxey with the summit of Snaefell, the highest point on the island. The line is 5 miles (8 km) long and is 3 ft 6 in gauge. The final section of the Manx Electric Railway from Laxey to Ramsey was opened on 24 July 1899.
Both the Peel and Ramsey lines shut following the 1968 season, but goods services between Peel and Milntown (just short of Ramsey) continued until mid-1969. The lines were lifted in 1975.
The section of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway from The Esplanade to the Sea Terminal is currently closed.

Since my last video, a lot of work has been done around the railway including repairs to the trackbed, sorting out the track where derailments were prevalent and putting in a new siding. James was sent out with a short goods train to complete several laps of the garden to see if the repairs had been effective. The railway is now almost ready for Thomas and his friends next adventure which will ...

Caver Keith Attempts the Birth Canal in Cwm Dwr Quarry Cave/OFD
Seeing those cavers crawl through the boulder choke elicits a strong feeling of F-That! I'm not going underground until I'm in a pine box.
This echos most people's sentiment, but for those of us who 'do these caves so that you don't have to', we love it!
My palms and feet are sweating jets 😅😅
😢
Thank you for sharing the thought. After hearing so many horific stories relate to caving the "Why?" became pretty intense in my brain and your video answering just that.
Its so insanely crazy that i cant even be terrified
Guess exploring caves isn't for you then?
Why?
Simple. It was to help him celebrate his 70th birthday. 😀
Brilliant video. Shame about the music.
😀
Are you crazy?
Possibly.
R.I.P.
That's incredible
A very sad tale.
I went to this exact cave and I remember doing the letter bow but I also did something called the worm hole, the toilets and the white line challenge
It's a very popular place for adventure groups. I went with a Scouts group and visited all of the above places in the cave.
No love for the Great Laxey Mine or Groudle Glen Railways?
Would love to have visited both railways but neither were running during my short stay on the island.
Castletown Station is one of the filming locations for Thomas and the Magic Railroad!
I didn't know this! Thanks for pointing it out. I'm a fan of the original books and haven't followed any of the films or TV series. I can see why Castletown Station was used. It is a lovely location.
Isle of Man is really a magic island!
I've just had it explained to me why you have said this. I hadn't realised that Castletown Station is a location in Thomas and the Magic Railroad.
@@CaverKeith Yeah :)
We stayed in Port Erin, and used this train to Douglas. IoM is well worth a visit.
I agree.
This is like my poop trying to get out
There’s really no need for such a puerile comment, and it’s not if I haven’t heard it hundreds of times.
@@CaverKeith sorry about that
A really interesting history of I.O.M. rail and tram transport and a delightful video of engines that would warm the heart of any steam enthusiast.
You are too kind, sir.
A model railway that transports people 🙂
It does seem like that.
This is so amazing
Can the gate be opened from the inside without the need for a key??
Yes, it can.
@@CaverKeith cool, thanks
Lovely
Thank you. As you know, half of the fun is in building a garden railway. 🙂
I used to be a very keen caver about 40 years ago, but can't recall any of what you have shown here. I guess there are always new discoveries. Also, in my day everyone used to wear wetsuits. Is this not the case anymore?
Thanks for watching. Yes, new discoveries are still being made. The longest cave in Wales wasn't entered until 1994. When I started caving most people still wore wetsuits, but in the early nineties people started wearing fleece onesies with either Cordura or PVC over-suits. This combination works in a similar way to wetsuits but is much more comfortable.
A tunnel Finished on the inside. Don't see that often. Very nice.
Thank you. 90% of the fun for me is in building a railway. I don't often ran trains unless I'm making videos. When people visit, it's nice when they spot little details like the refuges in the tunnel.
What Happened to You after You fell? How many Injuries You got?
I was in hospital for three weeks followed by six months convalescing at home. I was caving again after this. However, it took about eighteen months to fully recover. I broke my pelvis, fractured my spine and damaged my urethra.
@@CaverKeith OMG! But good thing you’re still better.
@@thomastheconjunctionfriend7908 Yeah. Fully recovered now, thanks.
I love that Thomas and Percy are Voiced by Kids, Like in the All Engines Go Reboot!☺️☺️😊😊
Thank you. I think it was a good decision too.
@@CaverKeith You’re Welcome!☺️☺️😊😊
If you ever get your hands on a G Scale 4-6-2 or 4-6-0, can you repaint it and add Gordon's face from Thomas?
I would love more G Scale Thomas characters. Unfortunately I do not have the skill to be able to convert other locos. 😕 I will just have to hope that Bachmann produce more G Scale Thomas locos. My wish list is Edward, Donald and Douglas, Duck and Oliver.
Wow?!
I was impressed too.
Nice engine Keith. How’d you get cast as James?
Thanks. I assume you are talking about Devious Diesel's Disaster? My voice actor let me down so I had to step in at short notice. 🤣
why?
If you need to ask the question then I'm afraid you almost certainly would not understand the answer. 😁
What the hell is the attraction ?
Adventure.
i think the amount of risk taken in comparison to the outcome is not at all worth... In earth there are many things that can be explored which are far beautiful than whats inside a cave.. (My opinion)
I respect your opinion, but I think that the slight risk is worth it.
Its the baggy clothing that get you in trouble
It certainly doesn't help.
i went to plas pencelli and went through porth yr ogoth it was terrifying
Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy it. A lot of us do.
Do you wear a wetsuit for this? What kind of clothes do you wear for this? Thanks
No. These days we tend to wear a fleece under suit and a cordura or PVC over suit.
How will Diesel redeem himself?
I’m afraid that you will have to wait.
oof buzzbox sure got what he was deserving
🤣🤣😀
You are doing, but why am I shivering from fear
Beats me.
Are you the person who made large scale train videos on the PineTreeJuction channel?
Yes and no. Pine Tree Junction was run by a good friend of mine. He made most of the PTJ videos. However, we did make some videos together both on the Sandwell Valley Railway and Pine Tree Junction. Sadly PTJ is no more following a house move.
@@CaverKeith Well I have a favorite video called "James Look Out!!" It had a music piece that I loved listening to when I was little. And to this day, I still can't figure out the track that was used in it. I tried using a Music Identifier, but it gives me a whole bunch of music that is incorrect. Is it possible you know the music piece in the video?
I’m sorry, I can’t help. This video was made before we first met. I will try to find out for you.
Nice model, video, and music. Well done, and thank you.
Thank you. It was an enjoyable model to build. One of the better set 7 models.
Ooooooooh we have some , they r fun to toy with ! 💝
Playing with Meccano is just a tiny bit safer than going caving. However, in caves I'm unlikely to stab myself with a screwdriver.
Amazing design
Thank you! Cheers!
No thanks. You can keep it.
Fair enough!
The shaft was not covered with cement. They put loose rocks down it. Unless I'm seeing something you can literally see the small hole at the end of the video where Neil entered the shaft.
Thanks. I do know this now, after reading Graham Proudlove's excellent book, 'A series of short passages'. Yes, the two cavers at the end are looking down the shaft. I do hope that my schoolboy error didn't spoil your enjoyment of the film. Keith
When you were a sperm inside the happy hole
Fantastic, really well built. It looks so much better with the extra bracing. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks David. It was very enjoyable to build.
